Modes & Settings
Pick the right Starcat chat mode and set who can see a conversation.
Pick a mode from the selector in the Starcat chat input. The mode decides how much Starcat may do.
Modes
Agent is the default.
| Mode | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Agent | Runs tools and writes data. | You want Starcat to make the change. |
| Plan | Read-only. Researches and drafts a plan for your approval. | You want to review the approach first. |
| Design | Iterates on visual designs and HTML mockups. Doesn't touch data. | You're exploring a layout before building. |
| Chat | Answers questions. Makes no changes. | You're asking about your business or apps. |
To be told when Starcat needs your input, proposes a plan or finishes a run, turn on browser notifications.
Model
Starcat runs on the same model as Starcat Developer.
Ultra
Ultra is a budgeted, max-power Agent mode for Starcat Developer in project builders; see Starcat Developer Ultra.
Conversation Settings
Chat visibility
Set per chat from the chat's settings. You can change it at any time, in the dashboard or the app sidebar.
- Personal: only you. Default.
- Shared with org: anyone in your organization.
Building across apps
Starcat doesn't change app code. To change one app or several, use your own coding agent with the Stardeck connector, or Starcat Developer in an app's Build tab. Operating an app's APIs from chat is controlled by each app's Allow agent access setting.
