The Starcat Agent
Starcat
Ask Starcat, the organization-level AI agent, about your business and have it operate your apps without changing their code.
Starcat is the AI agent for your whole organization. Starcat Developer builds code inside one project; Starcat works across projects but doesn't change their code.
Where to Find Starcat
- Organization dashboard at stardeck.ai/dashboard: a resizable side panel on dashboard pages.
- Inside an app: beside the App, Surfaces, and Guide tabs. Starcat Developer is in the Build tab.
- Conversations are saved. You can rename or fork them.
Sharing what you're looking at
In an app's sidebar, turn on Include current page content (eye icon in the chat input) so Starcat reads the page you're viewing.
- Off by default. Applies to the next message.
- Only in the app sidebar, and only on apps on a recent version.
- Building the app? A page can also tell Starcat what it shows and how to help there. See Page Context.
What Starcat Can Do
| Capability | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Knowledge store | Reads and writes org knowledge: policies, SOPs, brand guidelines. Checks it first on questions. | "What's our refund policy?" |
| Operate apps | Calls your apps' APIs as itself, on your behalf. | "How much revenue did the POS app make today?" |
| Data stores | Reads schemas, adds tables and columns, runs migrations on org-level data stores. | "Add a loyalty_tier column and backfill it to 'standard'." |
| Research | Searches the web and explores several topics in parallel. | "Find Stripe's current payout schedule for Thailand." |
| App settings | Reads and changes your apps' dashboard settings, limited to what you can change yourself. | "Which apps still have no custom domain?" |
| Skills | Loads your org's Skills on demand. | "Use our brand-voice skill to draft this announcement." |
An app only responds to Starcat when Allow agent access is on in that app's Settings → Cross-App tab. See Agent Cross-App Calling, including which environments Starcat can operate.
For chat modes and visibility, see Modes & Settings.
Starcat vs. Starcat Developer
| Starcat | Starcat Developer | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Your whole organization | A single project |
| Lives in | The organization dashboard | A project's builder |
| Knowledge | Organization knowledge store | The project's codebase |
| Building | Doesn't change code | Writes and edits code in one app |
| Cross-app calls | Operates apps as itself, on your behalf | Calls other apps as the current project |
Common Mistakes
- Starcat seems confused about what's on screen. Turn on Include current page content in the app sidebar. See Sharing what you're looking at.
- Starcat can't reach one of my apps. Turn on Allow agent access for the environment you're using, in that app's Settings → Cross-App tab.
- The change touches more than one app. Starcat doesn't change app code. Connect your own coding agent with the Stardeck connector, then describe the change once.
- Starcat Developer builds the wrong thing. Describe features and behavior, not table names or files. For non-trivial work, start in Plan mode and approve the plan before switching to Agent.
