Uptime Monitoring
Watch your app's live URLs every 5 minutes and get an email when one goes down or recovers
Stardeck can monitor your live URLs and alert you when something goes wrong. You'll know about outages before your customers do.
How It Works
Once enabled, Stardeck checks your URLs every 5 minutes. If a check fails multiple times in a row, it marks the URL as down and sends you an alert. When the URL comes back, you get a recovery notification.
| Detail | Default |
|---|---|
| Check interval | Every 5 minutes |
| HTTP method | HEAD |
| Expected status | 200 |
| Timeout | 10 seconds |
| Failure threshold | 2 consecutive failures before alert |
Enabling Uptime Monitoring
Open your app's Settings
Open the Uptime tab
Go to Settings → Observability → Uptime to view and manage your monitors.
Create a monitor
Click Add Monitor, enter the URL you want to track, give it a name, and click Enable Monitoring.
Uptime monitoring is included on every plan. For plan details, see Plan Allowances.
Ask an Agent to Set It Up
Ask your coding agent to create and manage monitors. With the Stardeck MCP server connected it uses
list_app_uptime_monitors, create_app_uptime_monitor, update_app_uptime_monitor,
delete_app_uptime_monitor and the report-settings tools. Starcat and Starcat Developer can do the
same. Describe what you want:
Monitor your production site
Set up uptime monitoring for https://myapp.comMonitor an API endpoint
Create an uptime monitor for my API at https://api.myapp.com/health using GET requestsMonitor with custom settings
Add an uptime monitor for https://myapp.com with a 5 second timeout,
notify me at ops@myapp.com when it goes downThe agent handles creating the monitor with the right settings. It can also list, update, and delete your existing monitors.
In Starcat Developer, creating, updating and deleting monitors requires Agent mode. In Chat, Plan and Design modes it can only list your existing monitors.
Notifications
When a monitor detects downtime, Stardeck can notify you by email. You control this per monitor:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Notify when down | Sends an email when the monitor goes down |
| Notify when recovered | Sends an email when the monitor comes back up |
| Notification emails | Who gets the down and recovery alerts |
By default, both down and recovery notifications are on. If you leave Notification emails empty, they go to every member of your organization.
Degradation alerts
Down alerts tell you about an outage as it happens. A degradation alert tells you when a monitor's uptime over the last 24 hours has dropped, even if the monitor is up now. Stardeck emails when that uptime drops below 99%. It sends one email, then waits until the uptime is back at 99% or higher before it can send another. A monitor needs at least 12 checks in the last 24 hours before this alert can fire.
Choose who gets degradation alerts under Degradation Alerts in the monitor's settings. Select project members, and they receive the email. If you select no members, the alert goes to the monitor's notification emails, or to every member of your organization if you set none.
Monitor Settings
The monitor's settings dialog sets the name, URL, HTTP method and notifications. Expected status codes, timeout and failure threshold are set through an agent:
| Setting | Options | Default |
|---|---|---|
| HTTP method | HEAD or GET | HEAD |
| Expected status codes | Any valid HTTP status | 200 |
| Timeout | 1-30 seconds | 10s |
| Failure threshold | 1-10 consecutive fails | 2 |
Viewing Uptime Data
Open Settings → Observability → Uptime to see:
- Status for each monitor (up, down, or unknown)
- Uptime percentage over 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days
- Response time trends
- Incident history with downtime duration
Uptime Reports
Downloading a PDF Report
You can download a PDF report of your uptime data from the Uptime tab:
- All monitors: Click Download Report in the monitor list header to get a summary of all monitors.
- Single monitor: Open a monitor's detail view and click Download Report for a report on that specific monitor.
Reports include uptime percentage, average response time, and a full incident history. The all-monitors report covers 7 days. A single monitor's report covers the period you're viewing: 7 or 30 days, or 7 days from the 24-hour view.
Scheduled Report Emails
Set up automatic weekly or monthly report emails with PDF attachments:
- In the Uptime tab, click Report Schedule
- Enable scheduled reports
- Choose a frequency: Weekly, Monthly, or Both
- Pick the day of the week (for weekly) or day of the month (for monthly)
- Add the email addresses that should receive the reports
Reports are sent at 7:00 AM UTC on the scheduled day.
You can also ask the agent to configure this:
Set up weekly uptime reports every Monday, send to ops@myapp.comPausing a Monitor
If you need to temporarily stop checking a URL (during planned maintenance, for example), you can pause a monitor from the Uptime tab or ask the agent:
Pause the uptime monitor for myapp.comPaused monitors won't run checks or send alerts until you resume them.
Common Questions
How quickly will I know about an outage?
With the default settings (5-minute interval, 2-failure threshold), you'll be notified within about 10 minutes of an outage starting.
Can I monitor internal or private URLs?
No. Monitored URLs must be publicly accessible. Private network addresses (localhost, 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, etc.) are blocked to prevent security issues.
What counts as "down"?
A check fails if the response status code doesn't match your expected codes, the request times out, or there's a connection error. The monitor is marked as down only after the failure threshold is reached (default: 2 consecutive failures).
