Refining and Polishing
Keep changing your app in the builder and test it as you go
This page continues with Lamp Coffee from the browser quickstart. Open the app in the dashboard and select the Build tab. Starcat Developer makes each change in the app's sandbox, and the preview shows the result.
Ask for one change at a time
The agent keeps the conversation's context, so describe only what should change:
- "Add a loyalty stamp card to Lamp Coffee's POS: one stamp per drink, a free drink at 10 stamps."
- "Let guests pick indoor or terrace when they book a table."
- "Show the stamp count on the receipt."
Be specific. "Use a warm brown accent and more space between menu items" works better than "make it look better". Screenshots and mockups help: the agent can read images.
For a larger feature, switch the chat to Plan mode first. The agent researches and proposes a plan, and you approve it before it writes code. See Starcat Developer.
Test as you go
Click through the preview as a guest and as staff: Test as in the preview toolbar switches between them. Book a table, ring up a coffee, submit every form and try edge cases: a long name, a missing photo, a day with no free tables. Switch the preview to Mobile to check phones. See Sandbox & Preview.
Describe what you find:
- "The booking form accepts a time after closing."
- "The stamp card doesn't show on mobile."
For workflows the café depends on, such as booking a table or taking payment at the counter, ask the agent to cover them with automated tests. A full passing run verifies that commit, and every deployment of the commit reuses the result. To agree on "done" before a feature is built, describe the tests first.
