Building Features

Email

Send automatic emails from your app, such as order confirmations and reminders, check what was sent, and receive email.

Your app can send email to your customers and team: order confirmations, appointment reminders, welcome messages. Sending uses Stardeck's email service, so there's no email provider to sign up for.

To add an email, ask your coding agent in your app's checkout. It builds the feature with the @stardeck-customer-apps/email-sdk package and follows the SKILL.md that ships inside it, in node_modules. If you build in the browser, ask Starcat Developer in the app's Build tab instead. Either way, describe the email in your own words.

What Can You Send?

Here are some examples of what business owners ask for:

Send quotes and invoices

Send clients a PDF of each quote when it's created

Confirm orders

Email customers a confirmation when their order ships, include the tracking number

Notify your team

Notify the sales team via email when a new lead comes in

Welcome new customers

Send new users a welcome email after they sign up

Getting Started

Every app includes email sending right away:

What You GetDetails
Emails per day10
Sender addressnoreply@preview.stardeck.email

That's enough for testing while you build. Your customers see emails coming from preview.stardeck.email.

Emails count toward your plan's monthly email allowance. See Platform costs for the amounts on each plan.

Using Your Own Domain

Want emails to come from hello@yourbusiness.com instead? Connect your own domain to:

  • Send from your own email address
  • Get more emails landing in inboxes (not spam)
  • Look more professional to customers
What You GetDetails
Emails per day500
Sender addressYour own domain (e.g., hello@yourbusiness.com)

To set it up, add the domain in your organization's Settings → Domains, click Enable Email under Email Sending, and add the DNS records it shows (SPF, DKIM and DMARC). The domain must also be assigned to the app. See Custom Domains for adding and assigning a domain.

Daily limits are shared by every app in your organization and reset at midnight UTC.

Checking Your Emails

To see what emails have been sent:

  1. Open your app in Stardeck
  2. Go to Settings and open Services → Email

You'll see:

  • How many emails you've sent today
  • Your sending limit
  • A list of recent emails with their status (sent, delivered, bounced)

Receiving Email

Your app can receive email too. Create an inbound address in your organization's Integrations settings under Email. Each address forwards every received email to your apps through their integration event endpoint.

When you add an address, choose one of three receiving methods:

  • Stardeck address: an address hosted by Stardeck.
  • Custom domain MX: an address on a receiving domain. Enable and verify inbound email for the domain first, under Domains.
  • Forward existing mailbox: forward an existing mailbox to the address Stardeck gives you.

Then link the address to your app under Settings → Services → Integrations.

Previews Don't Send Email

Branch previews refuse email sends, so you can click through unmerged work without emailing real customers. Sandbox and production apps send email as normal. A staging copy captures its emails instead of sending them.

Scheduled & Recurring Emails

For emails on a schedule, like a weekly report or a daily digest, combine email with Scheduled Tasks. Describe the schedule and the email to your agent, and it builds both.

Common Questions

Why aren't my emails sending?

  1. You may have hit your daily limit. Check Settings → Services → Email to see your usage.
  2. Branch previews don't send email. Test from the sandbox or production.
  3. Look at the email history for any errors.

Why are emails going to spam?

The starter preview.stardeck.email address is shared, so some email providers are stricter with it. Connecting your own domain significantly improves delivery.

What happens if I hit my limit?

You'll see a "quota exceeded" error. The daily limit resets at midnight UTC. If you've used your plan's monthly email allowance, sending resumes when the allowance resets at the start of your next billing period, or when you upgrade your plan. See Platform costs.
